Squirrel Proofing

Here are some techniques I am using for a black oil sunflower feeder:

  1. 1.  I use a standard, tube thistle feeder converted for black oil sunflower seeds.  I remove the perches and enlarge the thistle slots to a 3/8 in. hole for the sunflower seeds.

Squirrel Proofing

  1. 2.  Hang the feeder on a thin wire at least 2.5ft. long, about 3ft. from any object a squirrel can jump from, and more than 4ft. from the ground.

(This offers about a 99% squirrel proofing)

  1. 3.  Place a regular kitchen plastic funnel over the hanger.

(To date, this has increased the squirrel proofing to 100%.)
